What are the steps involved in Facial Balance Surgeries?

The steps of the facial balance surgeries vary with the needs and requirements of the patients. For instance, in some cases, balance can be effectively achieved with the help of facial implants only, but in other cases, implant surgery has to be performed in combination with other procedures including rhinoplasty, or nose correction surgeries to achieve the desired effect. However, the basic steps involved in conventional facial balance surgeries include the following:

  1. Administration of Anesthesia: To ensure a completely painless and comfortable surgery, the surgeon will administer anesthesia to sedate the patient. Facial Implant surgeries are generally performed on general anesthesia. The drugs and mode of anesthesia administration depend upon the surgeon’s preferences and the medical status of the patient.
  2. Creating Suitable Incisions: Based on the needs of the patient, the incisions are placed carefully around regions where the implants are to be placed. For chin implants, generally the incisions are placed from inside the mouth, along the labial frenum. An incision created below the chin can also be used for the placement of the implant.
Jaw Implants also require intraoral incisions along the vestibules of the cheek and the jawline.
Cheek Implants incisions vary based on the region of the cheek that requires enhancement and augmentation. In this case incisions may either be intraoral or extra-oral depending upon the surgeon’s technique. In case the implant surgery alone is not sufficient to achieve ideal facial balance, suitable incisions are created for chin, lip, eyelid and nose correction as required. Facial lift surgeries can also be performed in conjunction for better symmetry in case of excess skin sagging or wrinkles. Liposuction can be used for the effective removal of fat from under the chin as well if required.
  3. Incision Closing: Once the implants have been successfully placed and the combination procedures have been performed, the skin is then repositioned and the incisions are closed. The closure of incisions used during this surgery can be achieved with the help of suitable, absorbable sutures which are generally removed two weeks after the surgery. If the incisions are smaller, skin adhesives can also be used.
